Most applications must be installed on your computer if you intend to use them. It gives you access to a good number of up-to-date applications, it allows you to decide how to integrate them with your desktop and more.

You can have Zero Install up and running in a few moments. The installation file is almost 4 and a half MB and the setup wizard will guide you through a straightforward procedure. Furthermore, the software is compatible with Linux and Windows platforms and it's free.

Zero Install's interface presents a list of applications, which can be launched without installing them. You can use a search function to locate an application instantly and you can also send your favorites to another list, on a different tab. Clicking the Run button, located next to a listed item, will download the application's files and launch it.

An application's files are downloaded only when you run it for the first time. The files are stored in Zero Install's cache, which can be managed on a separate window. Launched applications can be updated at any time, with a single click. It is also possible to run applications with command line parameters and to make a few integration settings, like creating desktop shortcuts, Start menu entries and more.

The best part is that you can synchronize your applications list, along with your personal settings, between multiple computers. You have to create an online account to use this feature, but it will not take long. If the software is installed on another computer and it is associated with your account, you will be able to send your applications to the remote computer without any kind of difficulties. For security reasons, Zero Install will encrypt your data, before it sends it to another computer.
